How to Update Lookr Without Losing Downloads

Sideloaded apps do not update themselves, but updating Lookr manually preserves everything when you do it in the right order. The wrong order, uninstalling first, wipes your settings. Here is the right way.

Key takeaways: Download the new XAPK, install it directly over the old build without uninstalling. Your library and settings carry across when signatures match.

The correct update order

1. Check for a new version on the official download page. 2. Download the new XAPK. 3. Install it over the existing app using your XAPK installer, do not uninstall first. Because both builds carry the developer's signature, Android treats it as an update and your library, settings, and downloads survive. 4. Open and verify that your Library is intact.

When you must uninstall first

If the install refuses with a signature conflict, usually when mixing builds from different sources, then uninstall the old build, reboot, and install fresh. This resets settings, though shared storage videos survive. This is also the fix in our App not installed guide.

How often to check

Lookr updates are infrequent, the published changelog pattern is small maintenance releases. Checking the download page once a month is plenty. If search starts misbehaving, check immediately, backend changes sometimes need the newest build.

Questions about this guide

Will updating delete my downloaded videos?

No, when you install over the existing app. Videos in shared storage and your library survive a proper update.

How do I know a new version is out?

Check the official download page. There is no in-app update notification for sideloaded installs.

Can I downgrade after updating?

Yes, but it requires uninstalling first, which resets settings. See our old versions guide for when that makes sense.
